Great Places to Visit in Canada

My family and I will be migrating to Alberta, Canada within a month. My mother has been very busy visiting this firm who’s helping us with our visas. I’m pretty excited so I started searching for known places to visit. Here’s the first five on my list.

Lake Louise - the picture says it all. Deep in the Canadian Rockies a large turquoise lake trickles from the thousands year old glacier in the distance.

Banff Springs - the Fairmont Banff Springs is a five-star hotel nestled in the Canadian Rocky Mountains near natural hot springs.

Calgary - is a city in the province of Alberta, Canada. It is located in the south of the province, in an area of foothills and prairie, approximately 80 km (50 mi) east of the front ranges of the Canadian Rockies. The city is located in the grassland and parkland natural regions of Alberta. Source: wikipedia.

Drumheller - is a town (formerly a city) within the Red Deer River valley in the badlands of east-central Alberta, Canada. It is located 110 kilometres (68 mi) northeast of Calgary. The Drumheller portion of the Red Deer River valley, often referred to as Dinosaur Valley, has an approximate width of 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) and an approximate length of 28 kilometres (17 mi). What can you say about that? They are also known for excellent golf courses. There’s actually a lot more beautiful places here and I can’t wait to see them all.

A Gay-Friendly City - Vancouver

There’s no greater feeling then the feeling of belonging. Vancouver is one of the best places for queer people. They called themselves one of the most accepting cities on earth. Well, this is good new for me being a gay guy who has been looking for a city in Canada to visit.

Vancouver has a lot to offer. Aside from their gay-friendly places, they are very accessible, others say it’s Manhattan with mountains. You can do a lot of things like golfing. Yes, golfing! My favorite past time of course. Just be sure to consult an immigration lawyer like this offers if you’re planning to stay here for good.

Top 5 Reasons Why Canada Remains An Immigration Hot Spot

Canadian Immigration

The decision to emigrate from one’s homeland to pursue a standard of living that may not be available in their current surrounding is often met with fear and reluctance. But, once one has committed to their ambitions the next logical course is to decide, where? The globe is both diverse and ripe with opportunity making one’s chances of establishing themselves in any world class nation virtually equal.  However; one country seems to re-establish itself as being the favored destination for many foreigners…  Canada.

As we look into what makes Canada such a beacon to the millions that apply to come into its borders each year. It should also be noted that if your intention is to build a future on top of Canadian soil, often times your best measure is to get in contact with a skilled immigration attorney to further guide your pursuits.

A recent report by immigration.net listed the following reasons as to why Canada’s appeal has never faded in the immigration arena:

1.       Progressive Immigration Programs

Canada was among the very first countries to have introduced immigration programs against a Point Based System. The programs have attracted hundreds and thousands of immigrants over the last few decades. This has led to the follow-up immigration of their relatives, friends and acquaintances. The huge number of newly landing immigrants also encouraged the Government to create back-up and support infrastructure and agencies for them. These agencies help the immigrants in adjusting to the social and cultural shock and also guide them into ways and means of successful Economic settlement in Canada.

2.       Greater Flexibility in Immigration Criteria

The immigration rules are not as stringent when compared to other countries such as Australia and hence, are easier to qualify. In addition, despite the prevalence of recession, Canada has not cut down on its Immigration quota. In comparison, Australia has recently cut down on its immigrant quota by 14%. Many other countries too have been using direct and indirect means to control Immigration numbers.

3.       Diverse Visa Programs

Canada offers a great choice of immigration and visa programs for the employed, self-employed and businessmen categories. This includes federal and provincial nominee programs as well. For those not qualifying under the Immigration programs, Canada offers non-immigrant options such as work permit and student programs. Majority of these programs offer permanent resident visa and Immigration.

4.       Progressive Social Security Programs

Canada offers the most supporting social security benefits program for immigrants and their families – first on landing and in normal process. The country’s educational and health facilities are among the best in the world and highly subsidized. Post retirement and old age benefits ensure that one looks forward to growing old and is not dependent on their children. During the economy downturn, the country’s unemployment allowance policies help its residents to feel and live better.

5.       Visa-Free Travel as a Canadian Citizen

Canada offers a citizenship resulting in the claimant of its national passport. A Canadian passport holder enjoys a visa free travel for almost all major countries across the world. This in fact is one of the main reasons why businessmen, high net worth individuals and investors apply for Canadian Immigration. With their current status in the (developing) country of origin, they are subjected to extensive visa restrictions.

Although a life in Canada can bring forth tremendous advantages, it should be established that the Canadian immigration process is intricate with its fair share of red tape and loopholes to contend with. Not familiarizing one’s self with its various requirements may result in a denied application. That is why it is may be wise to seek advice from a Toronto area immigration lawyer who specializes in all areas of immigration law.

There are 2 Types of Canadian Work Permits

There are 2 different types of Canadian work permits. One category of jobs requires approval by Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC). The other does not. The HRSDC issues a letter to an employer that a given job being filled by an immigrant worker will not have a negative impact on the Canadian labour market. This means that the employer cannot find a qualified Canadian applicant to fill the position.

Employment opportunities may be offered for a limited time so it is important to get legal representation from qualified immigration lawyers to expedite the work permit approval process. Once the HRSDC approval has been granted and the employer has provided a letter detailing its intention to employ an immigrant, the work permit can be issued very quickly. If applied for at a port of entry, it can actually be issued the same day. Immigrants must also receive a Temporary Resident Visa. Final approval in all work permit matters rests with the CIC, Citizenship and Immigration Canada. This agency has a great deal of discretionary power in deciding these cases.

What are the requirements?

You must have the employer letter, the HRSDC favourable opinion and meet all requirements for a temporary visa. Both applications require processing fees. If you work in jobs that impact customer health, then a physical exam may be required. An immigration attorney can help you gather necessary documentation for Canadian immigration.

What jobs do not require HRSDC approval?

The following situations may not require approval or an offer of employment.

· Open work permits may be available to the spouses or common law partners of work permit holders or foreign students. Asylum seekers and in-land immigrants sponsored by family members may qualify as well. Sometimes destitute students may be issued a work permit.

· Certain special territorial or provincial programs seeking skilled workers may not require HRSDC approval.

· Some jobs in journalism and the arts are also exempt.

· Entrepreneurs who intend to buy or start a business or invest in a company that will provide Canadian jobs do not require HRSDC approval.

These Medical Conditions Would Deny You Entry From Canada

When planning to enter the United States from Canada, it would be wise to consulate with an immigration lawyer, particularly if you have any concerns regarding certain medical conditions, which could mean refusal or denial of entry from Canada for Canadian immigration purposes.

Denied Entry from Canada

A 64 year old woman that had attempted suicide years ago, in 2006, was refused entry from Canada when she was planning to visit California.  After a physician from the State Department gave her clearance, at a cost of $250, as well as cutting through other red tape, the woman was allowed entry for a visit to the U.S.

Any medical condition that would be a threat to the health of US citizens, such as HIV-positive individuals, may be stopped by INS (Immigration and Naturalization Service) officials.

What Medical Conditions Would Deny Me Entry Into Canada?

Medical conditions that would make entry into Canada inadmissible would be any health condition that would be considered a danger to the public or to the safety of Canadians.  If the medical condition would impose an exorbitant strain on the Canadian health system or on social services, entry would be denied and immigration lawyers can advise you about which medical conditions are listed.  An exception is made (exorbitant strain waived) for spouse or common-law and/or child sponsorships.

Some medical conditions that may cause refusal or denial of entry to Canada:

▪ Mental –

▪ Suicidal tendencies or self-mutilation (violent act)

▪ Bipolar, schizophrenic, mood or anxiety disorders, paranoid disorders

▪ Severe or major depression

▪ Other (unspecified) psychoses

▪ Physical –

▪ Contagious diseases – STDs such as HIV, herpes, gonorrhea, hepatitis etc

▪ Disabilities - Cerebral palsy, blindness, etc.

Situations That an Immigration Lawyer Can Help With

▪ A couple who were planning to immigrate to Canada was denied entry because the male had a son who was autistic.  The son was not living with the father, nor was he ever planning to immigrate to Canada; however, because the son was under the age of 22, he was considered a dependent, even though he did not live with the couple.  His health condition, which is labeled under permanent disabilities, would be an excessive demand on social services and Canada’s health system, which was the reason for denial of entry. If you need more information on this just visit this website.

▪ HIV-positive individuals, or even a dependent with cerebral palsy, may be reason enough for entry into Canada to be denied or refused.  The first example poses a threat to the safety and health of the public, as well as presents as a medical condition that would be an exorbitant strain on Canada’s health system and social services.  The latter example would also be an excessive demand, as the costs for rehabilitation, physical therapy and special medical treatment strained Canada’s healthcare system.

Experienced immigration attorneys can advise you quickly about any policies that may have changed recently.  If you are facing any problems with canadian immigration due to medical conditions, seek help.  Consultation with an immigration attorney is advised, as Canadian policies are continually being addressed and amended.  Mental health issues and physical disabilities may or may not be a hindrance, but a reputable immigration law firm would be fully aware of the latest changes in Canada’s policies.
